Deception walked calmly through his old homeland. He gazed around him and memories flooded his mind. Memories of his beloved Skylar and his son, Kuruk. The spring sun shone down and warmed his dapple grey pelt, a lovely feeling after the cold winter. His eyes closed and his nares flared as he took a deep breath.
He was home.

Belle walked for hours trying to find a new home. She had escaped from her home on a ranch over the winter. She was wet, cold and very hungry. The sun was shining for the first time in a while, it felt so good. It was still a bit cold out though. Belle was walking when she spotted a huge lake. As she took a few steps toward the crystal blue water she spotted a stallion. She didn't know if she wanted to take a chance of getting killed or hurt but the water looked so good she slowly walked up to the lake and began to drink.

His eyes reopened and scanned the area quickly. He glimpsed a form near the lake. Trotting over, he noticed a golden palomino mare. A soft whicker was sent in her direction as he slowed and approached her.
Greetings, miss. I'm Deception. He looked at her expectantly, waiting for her to respond with her own name. She was pretty, her coat an even golden brown color. Unlike most other palominos, her mane and tail possessed a golden tint to the cream color.

Belle looked up to realize that the dappled Gray stallion was looking at her. He said his name was Deception. An odd yet nice name. A moment later she spoke Hello, My name is Belle. Belle was shivering in fear. She did not know what was about to happen. Deception seemed nice but she couldn't be to sure. She also thought her owner was nice...until he started to hit her repeatedly. Belle Lokked up again to find Deception still there. She thought that he would have left. Belle is very worried and then said Does this land belong to you? If it does I will leave. She had calmed down a little.

It's a pleasure to meet you, Belle. He parted his maw to speak again, but stopped himself when he noticed her reaction. It was oddly fearful. Was he really that intimidating? Snorting softly he met her eyes as she spoke again. In response, Deception nodded. Yes, these lands belong to me. However, you are more than welcome to stay. He smiled kindly to her.

She looked up and she calmed down and said Thank you, I think that I will stay. She looked around once more before saying Are there any other mare's with you?

Glad to hear it, Belle. The dappled grey stud shook out his silvery mane before perking his ears to catch the question that followed. Deception smiled and shook his head. No, no one else but you. He then moved off a few steps to graze.

Oh. I'm sorry. While Deception wasn't talking she was thinking about if her decision to stay was a good one. She now thinks that she should have waited a little while. She doesn't know if she will be able to survive. It's a little cold and she is starving. Belle is almost dry but still damp. She wished that she had never run away from the ranch. Yeah she was treated badly but at least she was warm. Now she is outside......with no one but her and Deception. Yeah he seems nice but she can't be to sure. Belle will just have to be careful about how she acts and what she says to him. She wouldn't want to upset him.

A smiled crossed his maw. Don't be. Deception resumed his grazing and Belle seemed lost in thought. The winter had been hard on him due to lack of a home and shelter. The snow had soaked him to the bone and he had lost a bit of weight. However, the spring sun felt warm on his back and he was now filling his belly with the delicious new grass. An occasionaly snort passed through his nares as he grazed.
Deception had a bigger issue than a small herd or winter hardships. He needed an heir to his lands. Someone to lead these lands for him when he passed. He had aged quite a bit, being in his 10th year. If there was no heir to take over for him, who knew what could happen to his herd and lands. They very well could be targeted and killed by the wolves. He needed a son.

[shadow=pink,left,400] I was grazing a field when I heard voices from the other side of the lake. I looked up to see a grey stallion and a buckskin mare standing pretty far away. How did I possibly miss them? I must have been relatively unobservant.
Shrugging it off, I cantered around the lake towards the pair. I whickered a greeting to both of them before stopping near them. I dipped my head shyly and spoke.
"Hello. I'm Zayda." [/shadow]

Deception lifted his head at the sound of someone approached. He looked to see a flashy bay tobiano ess cantering towards them. He returned her nicker with one of his own and listened as she introduced herself as Zayda. Welcome, Zayda. I'm Deception and this is Belle. He nodded towards Belle and smiled. I apologize if I'm being too forward, but you're welcome to stay with us if you're seeking a home.

[shadow=pink,left,400]"Welcome, Zayda. I'm Deception and this is Belle. I apologize if I'm being too forward, but you're welcome to stay with us if you're seeking a home."
I smiled to myself as he spoke. I sent a glance in the mare's direction as he introduced her as Belle. I whickered a soft greeting to her before turning back to Deception. As he offered me a place in his herd, I couldn't help but smile and nod.
"I'd love that, Deception. Thank you."
So this was my home now. I scanned the area briefly before turning to smile at both Belle and Deception. I had a feeling I'd like it here. Deception seemed very kind and Belle didn't seem openly hostile. Then again, she hadn't talked to me yet so it was possible she wouldn't approve of me joining the herd. [/shadow]

It's no trouble, Miss Zayda. It's a pleasure to have you. He dipped his head to her and smiled. The arabian stallion trotted over to the lake to drink deeply. The cool water was refreshing. The sun was warm on his back and the breeze felt nice, although a bit chilly. Deception began to graze near the water's edge as he waited. What he was waiting for, he didn't know. But he waited all the same.

[shadow=pink,left,400] "It's no trouble, Miss Zayda. It's a pleasure to have you."
I smiled at his politeness. He walked away, off to graze. I drew a line in the dirt with my hoof out of sheer boredom before looking around. There were no others in his herd. It was just me. It felt kind of lonely. I understood how Deception must have felt before I arrived. I flicked my tail at the annoying flies buzzing around me and stamped a hoof in irritation at them.
Still bored, I trotted over to Deception and nipped playfully at his shoulder. I snorted softly and grazed near him. The company was nice, though it had been a veryy long time since I had been around others. [/color][/shadow]

Deception skitted to the side as he received a playful nip to the shoulder. It had caught him off guard, he hadn't even realized Zayda had approached him. A smirk crossed his maw as he darted after her, nudging her rump before bolting. The grey arabian slide to a stop and turned around on his hindquarters to watch. He playfully half reared and snorted, his older age not slowing him down.
